If you are going through a surgery package company or third party, you should ask questions.
(It is unwise to send personal medical reports & photographs of your body parts to a medically unqualified person.)
Questions you should ask:
- Are you a qualified medical person with a full current license?
- If you are not qualified how can you check that my care is correct before and after my procedure?
- Can I have your CV and check out the credentials and registration with the organizations you have listed?
- What are the qualifications of your surgeons and can I have a CV to check them out?
- Are your surgeons qualified to do my procedure and how many have they done?
- Can I speak to a patient who has undergone the same procedure?
- Can I speak to the surgeon directly?
- Is he fully insured to practice at the hospital?
- Can I pay my hospital fees directly to the surgeon or hospital?
- Should I get medical insurance?
- Do you take total responsibility for my care if something goes wrong and will it cost more?
- After my surgery, will I have a follow up appointment with another surgeon back home or in my port of origin?
Questions you should ask to your surgeon:
- What are your qualifications for performing my procedure?
- Can I see a copy of your professional biography, which summarises your training, qualifications and credentials relating to this procedure?
- How many of these procedures have you performed to date?
- How often do you perform this procedure?
- What are the risks and possible complications?
- What happens if something goes wrong?
- Will any revision procedures cost extra?
- Is it the right procedure for me?
- Are there any alternatives?
- Can I speak with any of your past patients about their experience with this procedure?
- Do you have hospital privileges or a surgical facility where you perform your procedures/operations?
- Where is it located?
- What is the total cost of this procedure including anesthetists, surgical assistant, pathology tests, hospital/surgical facility and post-operative follow-up?
- Do you understand the result I am trying to achieve?
- Are you confident you can help me achieve this result?
